Higgidy Shelf Ready Tray

The Alexir Partnership assist high quality food producer Higgidy in launching a new individual slices range.
With Alexir Packaging making the cartonboard u-cards for Higgidy’s new product range it was no surprise that the famous food manufacturer approached Alexir International to assist with creating a useable and cost effective shelf ready plastic tray solution for in-store display.

As Alexir International already supply all of Higgidy’s other thermoformed packaging requirements we were only too happy to take up the challenge of creating this new, and slightly different, product.

History of the product

Discussions took place with the Higgidy team over the type of SRP (Shelf Ready Pack) they required and ideas were bounced around from a standard plastic tray through to a corrugated option. One of the Higgidy team subsequently presented us with a sample they had created themselves using components from other trays already in use within the supermarkets.

When we were given Higgidy’s initial concept it was stipulated that they needed the actual SRT (Shelf Ready Tray) made slightly smaller than the one they had put together as it needed to fit within a standard sized corrugated case already in use. Never one to shy away from a challenge, and by adjusting certain angles and reducing marginally the widths on the header and footer panels, we were able to decrease the overall size by the required amount allowing it to fit the existing case.

Samples were made and tested, and although these performed well it was decided to increase the trays material thickness by 150 micron to strengthen it further and provide better overall support to the individual slices.

Launch

In April 2011, staggeringly only 6 weeks after the project began; Higgidy proudly launched its new Slices range in the supermarkets, using the cartonboard u-cards and PET SRTs produced by the Alexir Partnership.

Alexir employees and their family spent the beginning of the Easter weekend at Buckmore Park Kart Circuit getting a feel for what it is really like for British F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button. They raced at the same kart circuit where both drivers raced as youngsters and learnt their craft!
Alexir Partnership are delighted to have been involved in the conception and production of the tingz counter displays, which are both striking in design and innovative in construction.
