Alexir launches the first fully compostable board pack of its kind suitable for direct food contact

In November 2007, Alexir launched its Alpha C range, developed to offer retailers direct contact food packaging completely free from any plastic.

The first packaging of its kind to be accredited by the Composting Association as fully compostable, the carton can be produced with or without a window, and is available in various sizes and can be designed to meet specific customer requirements.

Melvyn Chimes, Business Service Director at the Composting Association said “The Composting Association is pleased to see that companies such as Alexir are taking positive steps to reduce the amount of waste packaging sent to landfill. By making more packaging compostable they can play a constructive role in helping this country meet its obligations under the EU’s Landfill Directive.“

Uses and applications

Ideal for salads, pasta and other food-to-go, the Alpha C pack range is versatile and gives great on-shelf presence. Research has shown compostability is an extremely positive and increasingly important factor to the consumer. The Compostable logo will be featured to make it clear that the packaging is made from compostable material.

Fully tested

The pack has already been successfully trialled in leading UK retailers and Alexir is now geared and ready to service clients nationwide, providing new and existing customers with excellent service and operational facilities to best meet their requirements throughout the supply chain.
