Brief.

The Alexir Gifting team have long had a relationship with their customer and for each festive season they are tasked to design, produce and pack a luxury gift item for their successful Christmas range.

Every year gifting trends develop and change and the Alexir product designers scope the marketplace, present mood boards and sketch ideas for their customer. For this particular gift the iconic Freixenet Prosecco bottle and gold-wrapped chocolates were the chosen contents for the prospective pack format.

Our Approach.

The contents of the handbag were both heavy and fragile, so carton engineering was key from the outset. The studio designers took into account the weight and fragility to make it fit-for-purpose, but also were guided by the packaging designers in terms of style. As a result, the final sleek and stylish design of the handbag from the Creative team worked perfectly with the practicalities of transportation and merchandising.

Once the CAD sample was approved the gifting team proposed a series of print finishes that would enhance the luxury tactile-feel of the handbag. The final production version of the gift involved a range of premium print finishes including embossing, spot UV and foiling. The handbags were manufactured in-house at our Edenbridge carton-conversion site and then transported over to our sister site in Sussex, where they would be packed and collated for delivery to the customer.

The handbag was finished off with bespoke hand-tied ribbons sourced from the Far East by our Procurement team.

Results.

The beautiful handbag, and its contents, played a major part of the customer’s Christmas Gifting collection. Not only did it increase sales, but the proactive approach from all of the divisions further enhanced their reputation with the customer.

Multiple Services.

This project spanned four arms of our business and was overseen by another. It involved our Creative team for the carton engineering, our Manufacturing site for the carton production, our Procurement team for outsourcing and our Co-packing site for the collation, packing and palletising of the final product. The project management was headed up by one contact within the Alexir Gifting team.

This complex packaging project is a perfect example of how our multiple services complement each other and enable the customer to benefit from an end-to-end solution, all within one partnership. The entire project was managed by one person, meaning the customer only had to deal with one contact all the way through the process. For a brand owner, dealing with numerous packaging substrates and suppliers can be very time-consuming and resource-heavy.
