Small tin, big impact
Crafting the perfect matcha pack
When a premium wellness brand needs premium packaging, Alexir delivers.
The challenge
Pukka Herbs is a premium wellness brand specialising in organic herbal teas, lattes and supplements inspired by Ayurvedic principles. When launching its new matcha tea range, Pukka needed a packaging solution that would help protect the product while also reflecting the premium positioning of both the brand and the drink itself.
Matcha is highly sensitive to air, light and moisture, which means appropriate storage is essential for maintaining freshness and quality between uses. Pukka approached Alexir to develop a bespoke resealable tin that would securely store it’s individual matcha pouches and provide consumers with a practical, reusable container for use at home or in the office. With more than 10 years of experience working with Pukka, we were the ideal partner to bring this project to life.
The solution
Pukka’s tins needed to be unique in shape and size, reinforce distinctive branding elements and have a premium look and finish. Following the brief, Alexir’s divisions quickly got to work. Alexir International managed the sourcing of the tin, label and print production, working closely with Pukka’s design team. A key feature was the inclusion of Pukka’s signature helix artwork on the label, helping to create a strong visual link to the brand. Alexir Co-packing then packed the matcha pouches into the tins to deliver a finished product ready for retail and Alexir Packaging created the shelf-ready packaging for display in store.
Sustainability was an important consideration throughout the project. The tins support Pukka’s commitment to sourcing packaging solutions that align with their environmental values. The reusable design encourages consumers to continue using the packaging beyond its initial purpose. The tin and lid are also recyclable, while the inner matcha pouch can be recycled in stores. Finally, the shelf-ready packaging is made from recyclable fluted board.
The result
The finished range includes three SKUs: Ceremonial Matcha, Tulsi Lemon Matcha and Vanilla Chai Matcha. Each design uses flavour-specific illustrations to help consumers easily distinguish between the variations. For example, the Tulsi lemon Matcha tin features lemon peel artwork, while the Vanilla Chai incorporates the vanilla flower. A soft touch varnish was applied to enhance the premium feel and experience for consumers.
Ultimately, the project was a success and Pukka was delighted with the outcome. The finished tins deliver a strong, premium on-shelf presence and, as a brand that is often purchased for gifting, Pukka can utilise the tins in future gifting opportunities.
