Giant impact from Costco
The Giant Nutcracker Treat Tower made an impact in-store, on socials, and its reusable design reduced waste – a truly conscious Christmas gift.
The Challenge
Costco’s brief was to create a design that delivers impactful presence on the shop floor and broad appeal. They challenged Alexir to create a concept that is ready to gift and designed to be reused year after year.
Building on the growing trend for giant novelty gifts in seasonal retail, and the success of our Giant 5ft Advent Calendar in partnership with Lindt, we set to work to incorporate the iconic Costco Nutcracker statue and traditional Christmas themes and colourways into a large-scale festive gift that can’t be missed.
The Solution
This complex project required Alexir Gifting to navigate a supply chain with 15 different suppliers throughout the EU, contributing to the gift. The more partners involved, the higher the risks and the harder to keep on track, so we worked with each supplier individually and set up weekly project calls to maintain clear communication and track progress.
We worked closely with our EU suppliers to reduce lead times and sourced high-quality alternatives where necessary to keep the project on track. We verified compliance for all 15 products across multiple countries, and managed documentation and customs clearance within six-week deadlines to prevent any last-minute changes that may impact the in-store date or artwork.
Along the way, we developed and tested packing layouts for consistency and security. Our original plan for pre-tied bows wasn’t feasible within these time constraints, so we switched to UK-sourced organza ribbon that we hand-cut with hot scissors to prevent fraying and tied on site.
When it came time to transport the finished product, we balanced pallet weight and used partial wrapping with pallet sheets and hoods to prevent crushing during transit.
The result
The outcome was a spectacular oversized 3ft Giant Nutcracker Treat Tower, which was not only a visually striking, structurally sound and value-packed gift, but also new to the market in a six-week timeline.
It achieved mass appeal with its bold shop floor presence, and customer satisfaction was demonstrated by its strong social media presence.
